The position

About the role

British Institute of Lasers supplies and supports laser and IPL systems used by clinics across the UK and overseas. The service team brings together experienced engineers and knowledgeable support colleagues who help clients from installation through to ongoing maintenance.

We are looking for a Field Service Technician who enjoys hands-on technical work, regular travel and direct contact with clients. Some visits will involve planned servicing and performance checks. Others will require careful fault finding, practical repairs and a clear explanation of the work completed.

The role suits someone who is calm under pressure, comfortable working independently and willing to take proper ownership of a technical problem. You will also remain closely connected with the wider team, sharing service notes, reporting recurring issues and helping maintain a consistent standard of support.

Your work

Main responsibilities

Install equipment

Install and prepare laser and IPL systems at client locations, making sure each machine is set up correctly.

Complete servicing

Carry out scheduled maintenance, routine inspections and detailed performance checks.

Investigate faults

Diagnose equipment problems and identify the most appropriate repair or next technical action.

Carry out repairs

Complete on-site repairs where possible, using a careful and methodical approach.

Record findings

Produce accurate service notes and report technical findings to the internal team.

Support clients

Explain technical work clearly and provide patient, professional support during every visit.

Experience and approach

What we are looking for

  • Experience in a technical, engineering, electronics or equipment servicing role.

  • Confidence working with laser, IPL or similar precision equipment.

  • Strong fault-finding skills and a practical approach to on-site repairs.

  • Clear communication and a friendly, patient manner with clients.

  • The ability and willingness to travel regularly across the UK.

  • Careful record keeping and close attention to technical detail.

Working in the field

Varied days and practical problems

Client visits will take you to different clinics and locations around the country. You will need to organise your time carefully, work confidently without close supervision and adapt when the issue on site differs from the original report.

Good technical judgement matters. So does the way you speak to people. Clients should finish each visit understanding what happened, what work was completed and whether any further action is required.

Equal opportunities

British Institute of Lasers welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of race, gender, disability, religion or age.
