Laser Tattoo Removal: How To Do It Right

It’s estimated that as many as 1 in 3 of us have tattoos. At their best they are an art form that can showcase our uniqueness, mark our personal milestones or commemorate our loved ones. But as life goes on and we experience change, our tattoos may suddenly fill us with feelings of regret.

If you’re looking to have your tattoo removed as quickly and effectively as possible, here are three things that you should always keep in mind:

Quality of the Laser

The type of laser used for tattoo removal makes all the difference. The laser has to be strong enough to break down pigments in the skin, but a poor quality machine can cause scarring.  A modern laser such as Nu Tatouage Plus uses a quality switched Nd-YAG beam that is designed to remove your unwanted tattoo gently and effectively while leaving minimal trace on the skin. Experience of the Technician

Always ensure that you’re getting treated by an accredited and experienced laser technician. Tattoo removal involves equally as much skill as the tattooing process itself. An experienced technician will know how to manage the laser properly and assess the depth of the ink, as well as the age and placement of the tattoo. By way of contrast an inexperienced technician could keep treating the same area repeatedly in the hopes of forcing the pigment fade. Rather than being more effective this could be risky and end up burning or scarring the skin permanently.

If you’d like to speak to an experienced laser technician, get in touch with the British Institute of Lasers – we offer training sessions, as well as lifetime support for your lasers once purchased from us.

Time for Recovery

Laser tattoo removal is a process and to work effectively, each treatment should be spaced approximately 5-6 weeks apart. This gives the skin enough time to recover and minimise the risk of damage to the skin. Be prepared to take good care of your skin after each treatment by avoiding hot and cold temperatures, sun exposure, tight clothes and strong chemicals or cosmetics.

By taking the time to do laser tattoo removal properly, you will maximise the success and reinvigorate your own beautiful skin.
